Reflections
Brief notes along the path

The lift mirror is an honest critic
Every morning I catch my face between floors — tired, hopeful, sometimes both. I have started treating that ten-second reflection as a check-in: not how I look, but how I am arriving at the day. Today I looked rested. That counted for something before the first email.

Thunder before the rain
I was on the balcony when the sky shifted — that green-grey light that makes you reach for the laundry. I stayed anyway. There is a relief in being told to stop by something louder than your own schedule.

Old shoes, new route
I wore through the soles of my walking shoes on the same loop around Redhill. Today I turned left where I always turn right. Three blocks in, I found a coffee shop I had never noticed. The path changes when you do.

The inbox can wait
I opened my email before breakfast and felt the day collapse into urgency. Closed the laptop. Made toast. The messages were still there at ten — nothing had burned down. Responsiveness and readiness are not the same thing.

Someone else's music through the wall
A neighbour played old Mandopop on a Sunday afternoon. I did not understand every word but I understood the mood — nostalgia, warmth, the kind of volume that means you are home and not apologising for it. I turned my speaker off and listened.
